Our history

Twenty-five years ago, Jean-François d'Hoffschmidt and his wife Yolande owned a dairy farm, so they sought to diversify their farming activity. The idea came to them: to start breeding bison. In 1992, they imported a hundred bison calves from North Dakota. Today, you will find about 200 bison roaming on a hundred hectares of prairie.

Main meat resource of the Indian tribes, the bison was reduced to a few hundred individuals during the conquest of America by the white man in the 19th century, before being protected in national parks and then gradually raised in private farms and ranches. The buffalo can endure harsh winters as well as sunny summers and make do with poor fodder by living outdoors in wide open spaces where they can give free rein to their agility and speed.
